The weather finally relaxed and we have had some nice days to explore the carved up beaches. Surf fishing structure is always great to explore as it shifts back to the norm. A lot of fish will hunt the new structure looking for food.
The pompano action is still happening. Anglers are just starting to get out and about on the OSV beaches. They were kept closed for a bit which is needed with the coastal flooding issues. Storm surge is no joke.
If you ever go camping somewhere, make sure you plan ahead for bad weather issues, such as checking the elevation of the area for flooding. Many campers were flooded out during the hurricane with little or no warning from parks at the south side campground. It’s always good to plan ahead. It helps if the host campground is looking out for their campers too. Always be prepared for a trip out of town, you just never know. It’s best to be able to rely on yourself in many cases.
Slot striped bass fishing in the Delaware Bay will end Aug. 31. That has been fun for many anglers.
Boats and the charters are just getting back out so that action will pick up.
Crabbing is excellent. Clamming isn’t too bad either. The cooler months are coming which is better for my clamming not my crabbing.
The fishing issues from the hurricane are about back on track so get out there and fish. I was supposed to be fishing in the mountains this coming holiday weekend. Looks like it is home for the weekend and out next week to explore The Point. She opens the first of September.
Catch My Drift Beach: We have a way we fish The Point when no one is around. We use the 13-foot surf rods. Cast beyond the edge and walk the line around The Point. You just have to set up for the tide. We call it drifting The Point. Our bait and weight set up will whip around the edge which is just a giant shoal. Once it hops over the other side, there are usually predators there looking for food. Once we find some fish, we just keep taking position up behind the next person and run about four lines this way. The hit is tremendous when a big fish crushes that bait. Now you got a beast in that current too. Lots of fun.
