DOVER - A monthlong pause in city shootings ended Monday night when a 24-year-old man was wounded during an incident in the unit block area of North New Street, police said.

According to the Dover Police Department, officers arrived to find a man lying in the roadway with a gunshot to his upper left thigh at approximately 9:30 p.m. The man, who also had a large laceration on his forehead, was transported to Bayhealth Medical Center for treatment and was in stable condition.

There hadn’t been a shooting in Dover since June 6, when three people were wounded in separate incidents at Dover Downs Hotel and Casino and the IHOP restaurant on South Little Creek Road.

From April 18 to June 6, there were 11 reported shootings in 50 days, with 14 wounded victims. Three homicides occurred between April 26 and May 14, and arrests were made in two cases.

Monday’s shooting was in the same approximate area of an April 29 shooting when a 29-year-old man died of a single gunshot.

In the latest shooting, police said a suspect was described as a 5-foot-10 to 6-0 black man with an average build and wearing all black clothing.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and asked anyone with information to contact the Dover PD at 736-7111. Authorities said callers may remain anonymous.
