DOVER — The long-running case of a Magnolia man accused of fleeing from police in 2013 as a business was searched for drugs has been delayed until next month.

James A. Wilson was scheduled for a jury trial on Jan. 20 in Kent County Superior Court, but the matter was continued until Feb. 17. He was arrested on April 4, 2013, and indicted on June 3, 2013.

Mr. Wilson was charged with second-degree assault and possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, among other alleged offenses, after authorities claimed he sped away in a vehicle as a search warrant was conducted at the Many Things store at 239 W. Loockerman St., in Dover.

The case has now been delayed six times.

Other trial postponed trial dates include Sept. 17, 2013; Dec. 2, 2013; Feb. 18, 2014; April 14, 2014, and Dec. 8, 2015.

According to police when announcing the arrest in 2013, Mr. Wilson was spotted in a parking lot across the street from the search warrant execution. He then allegedly entered a vehicle that sped away southbound on South New Street, ran a red light and then collided with a pickup truck and trailer at the intersection of West North Street.

Mr. Wilson was apprehended by pursuing officers a short distance from the vehicle, police said.

The driver in the truck suffered a cut scalp and multiple contusions, and the passenger suffered multiple contusions, authorities said. Both were treated at the Bayhealth-Kent General Hospital Emergency Room in Dover and later released.

Police said the search warrant did not yield any drugs, but an undisclosed amount of currency was seized as the investigation continued. Mr. Wilson was a target of the drug investigation, police said, and was named on the search warrant.

Other charges against Mr. Wilson include third-degree assault, resisting arrest, disregard police signal, leaving the scene of injury collision, criminal mischief, and alleged traffic violations.
