Letter to the Editor: Writers agree on immigration dilemma

Posted

I 100% agree with Beverly Monahan on the immigration issue this country has been facing for years (“Immigration and terrorism still are concerns,” Jan. 5). Our borders are being infiltrated daily with an influx of illegal immigrants crossing the border with their hands out, taking away from our veterans and others.

It is often said that we are all immigrants and should be more welcoming. While that may be true, our ancestors came in the right way and went through the legalization process; they also worked and gave back to the country that welcomed them with open arms. The same cannot be said today, nor can it be said that our government leaders are taking steps to improve the situation.

Our borders are jampacked, our welfare systems are overloaded and the America that we once knew is slowly fading away, dimmed by the failures of our elected officials to keep their oaths of office, shadowed by the greed of our leaders and overrun by those who don’t give a darn about this nation except what they can get from it. The war on illegal immigration has been ongoing for years and will continue unless we are fortunate enough to finally elect some officials with the courage to step up, demand change and take our country back.

Actions, or lack thereof, speak volumes, and the lack of protecting our borders speaks volumes. God help us. He is the only one that can.
