Letter to the editor: Will Biden be more ‘flexible’ with Putin?

Posted

Will President Joe Biden exhibit flexibility to Russian President Vladimir Putin of the sort that President Barack Obama indicated in his “hot-mic” comment to then-President Dmitry Medvedev prior to the 2012 presidential election?

The United States of America is facing some of the most dangerous times we have seen since the Vietnam War, and the Afghanistan war debacle ended in embarrassing disaster for our reputation throughout the world. Biden handled this extremely wrong, on occasion even not discussing it when questions were asked. He simply departed the podium, and the queries remained unanswered, as if this painful situation never existed. He just went on to the next disastrous, dangerous event.

We have now seen Russian troops invade the independent country of Ukraine. Vladimir Putin threatened the Ukrainian nation for many years. His threats have now become his Russian reality. For decades, there has been unrest between these two countries, and Putin held his violent inclinations until now. I feel he views America’s president as weak, and verbal accusations mean nothing to an old KGB operative. Putin feels this time he will succeed when, before, he hesitated when President Donald Trump was residing in the Oval Office. Putin, Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un and Iranian leaders never quite understood what Trump would do to them if they performed their evil capabilities with a country led by the unknown factor of a President Trump. They never were secure enough to develop their tendencies and prove how powerful they had become. Putin believes that talk is cheap. Russian actions are telling the tale.

America has descended into an energy shortage that never should have occurred. The Keystone XL pipeline should have not been eliminated, one more tragic decision of weakness exhibited by the Biden administration. Biden spokeswoman Jen Psaki has declared that “all options remain on the table.” Reinstating the Keystone XL pipeline would relieve the energy crisis that President Biden created. Oil is something we can easily provide for ourselves. The dangers we face are overwhelming America resources. This most stop!

The United States must show power to compete effectively with a tyrant like President Vladimir Putin. He is now openly threatening America with cyberattacks on our grids and banks, actions that would destroy American strength. He wants Russia to once again show its dangerous ability to destroy peace in the world.

American troops now have boots on the ground in Poland and other NATO countries. We have been told by our leadership that they are not going to battle Russian troops, that they are strictly technical advisers and reinforcement for friendly nations. Aren’t these reminiscent of the initial statements that we heard by the previous administrations prior to our complete involvement in the Vietnam War, where 58,000 American lives were lost, and many returned with never-ending wounds of limb and PTSD?

America must exhibit strength and the willingness to carry on through actions that will end Putin’s diabolical, dangerous actions. Is his dream to reestablish the former USSR? Putin will only respect strength. Weakness will fall on deaf ears!

May God always bless the United States of America!
