I have never been a person that accepted the answer, “Because we have always done it that way,” as a reason to continue a behavior. As a transplant from Maryland, I have recently been made aware of elections for register of wills and recorder of deeds. I would appreciate someone explaining to me why clerical positions are elected positions and also what political values are needed in the daily decision-making process for these jobs.
I suggest that the print, radio and TV advertising time and cost for the elections be spent on school safety, fire or police departments or some other local issue and that these clerical jobs be filled by the governor’s office.
