Letter to the Editor: What do gun statistics mean to attorney general?

Posted

I just finished reading the article about the debate for the attorney general candidates concerning gun crimes (“AG candidates spar over gun charge dismissals,” Aug. 21).

The Republican candidate stated statistics from a nonpartisan analysis center, showing very low prosecutions. The current attorney general, according to the article, stated that these statistics were “flat-out false.”

I read the crime reports every day in the paper, and I have seen arrests for gun crimes given zero to minimum bail. Some arrests involve people with previous felony convictions, who are prohibited from possessing a gun.

My question is, why are statistics only true when they benefit the Democratic candidate and gun-control crowd?
