Letter to the Editor: What are we becoming as a nation?

Posted

As we struggle with a wide-open border and an unprecedented number of illegal crossings; lawlessness in our streets because George Soros-backed district attorneys believe in criminals; a crumbling K-12 educational system; the defunding of our police; the ever-increasing belief that we now have a two-tiered legal system; a fentanyl crisis; homelessness running rampant; rampant inflation; and the underlying premise that we are a racist nation, what is our future?

If we listen to our smiling president, everything is fine, and his accomplishments are leading this country forward. Unfortunately, I believe the president is senile and that it has gotten to the point where his handlers could easily tell him that “the sky is always blue and cloudless,” and his response would be, “See, our climate change policies are working.” How has our nation fallen so fast?

From my perspective, our nation’s destruction began with the election of Barack Obama, a pure socialist who believed our country was racist and needed to be dramatically transformed. His policies started our transformation, but Joe Biden has kicked them into high gear and, in less than 30 months, has almost brought our country to a point of no return. How?

The Biden administration tactic has been simple: Institute the policy of diversity, equity and inclusion, and redefine the meaning of those three words. By redefining the definition of those three innocuous words into the mold created by the Democrat narrative, what sounds like something everyone would agree to becomes the basis for destroying the Judeo-Christian beliefs upon which our country was built, as well as the family structure as we know it.

The Democrats have been taken over by the far-left radical wing of their party and the extreme radical wing of the LGBTQ community. These two factions have driven the Democratic Party to support and fight for the ideals they profess and continue the idea that we are a country of “oppressed” and “oppressors.” They have done this by redefining simple English words and, among other things, using our Department of Justice to go after parents who believe that they, not our government, have the last word in how their children are educated.

Every time a Democrat talks about the destruction of our democracy, they are really talking about the socialistic policies they embrace. At the national and local levels, especially here in Delaware, Democrat-controlled legislatures are slowly enacting laws (their policies) to restrict our First Amendment rights and force us into a lifestyle we do not want.

The recent Supreme Court decisions are a prime example of just how dangerous the Democrat Party and its policies have become to destroying our constitutional republic. Our president and many members of the Democrat Party have openly disparaged the court and said they would continue to fight for diminishing the legitimacy of the court’s opinions. They have obviously forgotten that our forefathers built this country on three branches of government: the executive, legislative and judicial. From the perspective of the Democrats, unless the judicial succumbs to the will of the executive and legislative branches, something is terribly wrong. Our Democrat friends have totally dismissed the document that makes this country so great, our Constitution. It would behoove a number of them to not only read but understand the true meaning of that document.

The Democrats have succeeded in getting many of us to forget that, first and foremost, we are all Americans. What they have succeeded in doing is getting many of us to believe that we are each a member of one of many cultural groups that has been oppressed by Whites and that the only way to attain the “American dream” is to let the government think and act for you.

The 2024 presidential and congressional elections are a short 16 months away. Unless we elect candidates with a passion to renew our belief in America — which, in my opinion, precludes any Democrat currently in office or running — our 240-plus-year experiment will crumble, and our children and grandchildren will become slaves to a government bureaucracy that wants to control them from birth to death.
