Letter to the Editor: Senators urged to support affordable access to health care

Posted

As we continue to recover from the devastating impacts of a global health crisis, it is important that we remain focused on the needs of the American people. A crucial component of the road to recovery is ensuring every resident of Delaware has access to affordable health care. Vital subsidies that were expanded in the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) provide an historical number of Americans with access to affordable health care. They are also set to expire this year, and we need our leaders to make them permanent now in budget reconciliation.

As a proud representative for Delaware, I’ve witnessed the impact that the expanded health care subsidies have had on my community. Thanks to the subsidies, more than 34,000 Delaware residents are now enrolled in federal marketplace coverage. More families have been able to afford the coverage that they deserve. We cannot allow the great progress we have made to be reversed.

All Americans and residents of Delaware are counting on their leaders to preserve access to affordable health care. I strongly encourage Democratic U.S. Sens. Tom Carper and Chris Coons to advocate on behalf of your citizens — and push to make these critical subsidies.
