According to the recent United Nations report on climate change, the time is “now or never” to avoid global catastrophe. This report underscored why young activists like me treat this issue with significant urgency. We simply cannot afford to wait any longer.
Fortunately, there are some signs of progress. During a period where political polarization and partisan gridlock have stymied action on countless issues, including climate, bipartisan movement is underway. On Earth Day, the U.S. Senate Climate Solutions Caucus — composed of an equal number of Democrats and Republicans — endorsed six climate bills. This includes the revival of coral reefs in Florida, the construction of shoreline-resilient infrastructure here in Delaware and more.
This bipartisan effort is led by our own Democratic Sen. Chris Coons, who co-founded and co-chairs the caucus and is helping make climate the bipartisan issue it deserves to be.
The urgency of the moment is indisputable. We need solutions that can actually pass and actually work. I applaud the members of the Senate Climate Solutions Caucus for coming together to find meaningful pathways forward.
