Letter to the Editor: Reader questions proposed voting changes

Posted

Of the democracies in Europe and North America (Canada, U.S., Mexico), Great Britain and the U.S. are the ones that do not require voter ID. Parliament is considering adding it, and many states already do. Many Americans of every stripe favor requiring ID to vote. Democrats in D.C. seek to outlaw it as some kind of voter suppression, apparently knowing better than everyone else.

Joe Biden criticizes a Georgia law that permits state officials to remove local election personnel for specified acts of misfeasance or malfeasance. His proposed voting law (House Resolution 1) contains the same provision, but places the removal authority with government authorities in Washington. When state officials can remove dishonest or incompetent voting officials, it’s corruption; if the feds have that power, it’s saving democracy.
