Letter to the Editor: Questions for candidates in Seaford election

Posted

Hello. Hope you are staying warm during these chilly days! But on to politics …

As you may know, I am always pleased when citizens are willing to take the plunge into city of Seaford government — in some cases continuing the plunge. As usual, I am also extremely interested in finding out about everyone’s positions/opinions regarding what I consider to be significant issues.

Therefore, I ask your positions/opinions regarding:

  • Establishing female representation in elected city government.
  • Eliminating the blight of the Nylon Capital Shopping Center.
  • Moving city voting to November to increase voter turnout.
  • Improving voter representation by forming two voting districts for two City Council seats.
  • Enacting 2022 hikes in water, sewer and electric rates and apparent intent to enact more water/sewer increases in ’23 and ’24.
  • Using a lender for wastewater-treatment projects, which would require Seaford citizens to pay higher water/sewer rates in order to qualify for favorable items (i.e., interest rate/principal reductions).
  • Defending the city against the Delaware attorney general’s suit for multiple violations of Delaware law.
  • Accepting/using anonymous/secret money for adverse litigation.
  • Spending millions for a 1 million gallons per day capacity increase (about 50%) of a long underused wastewater-treatment plant with projected new use due to population growth of less than 15%.
  • Continuing city violations of state laws, especially Freedom of Information Act statutes.
  • Retaining so many $100,000-plus-per-year city employees.
  • Instituting “public comment” at all public meetings of city public bodies.
  • Providing for individual homeowners’ two-way connections with the city grid for photovoltaic installations.
  • Planning for very large increases in truck traffic in/around Seaford.

Certainly, your specific concerns which I have not mentioned are important for consideration, as well. I would be happy to discuss these issues with you at your convenience. Please let me know.
