I would like to take the time to commend outgoing Sheriff Brian E. Lewis on a job well done. A job that involved not only personal sacrifice but also where he showed commitment, perseverance, an open mind and ear for all and a willingness to respond to a resident’s call. He is one that has my admiration for his willingness to serve others, especially those who have no voice.
Not only has Sheriff Lewis served Kent County for four years, he has held several leadership positions and has made meaningful strides to better our county and community. He has presided as a Dover city councilman, a Capital School District board of education member and a Dover human relations commissioner. He gives back to his community by volunteering time with the Code Purple mission, the Dover Interfaith Mission for Housing, the Delaware Special Olympics, the Delaware Multicultural and Civic Organization and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, just to name a few.
Sheriff Lewis has supported me in my ministry by volunteering time, assisting me with paperwork and, most importantly, navigating the many different systems each town and state office has. He is always willing to help the community he lives in to be a better place, and he has a love for the people in his community. It is an honor, privilege and pleasure to work with Sheriff Lewis.
As with any public official, especially one willing to serve for 12 years in three areas of government, there were always votes, decisions and issues that may have been questioned but never could anyone question your dedication to doing what you felt was in the best interest of the citizens of Kent County.
In closing, a heartfelt gratitude for your public service. Please continue to give us the benefit of your wisdom and experience.
