If we abandon those who helped us, who will choose to become our allies in the future?
I do not like to use the words “refugees” or “asylum” when referring to these Afghan allies. Don’t we give a heroes’ welcome to the Afghan K-9 soldiers as they reunite with our service members, whom they fought alongside? Don’t our human allies deserve at least some protection?
Yes, I understand that there may be opportunity-seekers or even potential terrorists trying to make their way into the U.S. under the guise of allies. This should be handled by our intelligence, which cannot be gained without these allies to begin with.
Administrations come and go, but the veins of national security must run undeterred. Time is running out. Let’s get them out first, before debating where it went wrong.
Leaders and citizens, please do something, anything, to help our allies. Let the world know that the U.S. takes care of its allies as its own.
