Letter to the Editor: Letter on Bonini endorsement nets response

Posted

Editor’s note: This letter was received before the seven-day pause on candidate and endorsement Opinion content that started Sept. 6.

I want to thank Mr. Thomas Hoever for so kindly sharing with all the good folks who read the Delaware State News my heartfelt and well-deserved endorsement of Sen. Colin Bonini, R-Dover, for reelection in the 16th Senate District (“The 16th Senate District needs a change,” Aug. 25).

Mr. Hoever is correct — we do need a change in the Delaware General Assembly. The change we need is a new majority party.

We need more Republicans like Colin Bonini. We need a Republican House and Republican Senate if our police are to be supported and respected, if we are to have an education system that works for every Delaware child, if our constitutional rights are to be protected and if our tax system is to be fair for all.

Yes, Mr. Hoever, we do need a change — a change from a Democrat majority to a Republican majority. A Republican majority would never have allowed the passage of House bills 450 and 451 or Senate Substitute 1 for Senate Bill 6. Sen. Bonini voted no on all three. So did every other Republican.

Only with a Republican majority can there be real and meaningful change in the Delaware General Assembly.

I endorsed my senator, Colin Bonini, because he is a true conservative who has always defended the rights of the people of the 16th Senate District and consistently opposed the far-left Wilmington Democrats who exercise absolute control over Delaware’s General Assembly.

Thank you, Mr. Hoever, for recognizing that a true and meaningful change is sorely needed in our legislature — a strong Republican majority.
