Letter to the Editor: Lawmakers urged to allow Medicare drug-price negotiation

Posted

I pay $40 every month for my prescriptions. I know that may not seem like much, but it’s all I can afford. My doctor wants to give me something better to improve my health condition, but I simply can’t afford it. What good are drugs if you cannot afford them?

Drug companies are getting rich, and I can’t buy the medicine I need. But it doesn’t have to be this way. Every year, Medicare spends billions on prescription drugs, yet it is prohibited from negotiating with drug companies to get lower prices.

Congress is considering giving Medicare the power to negotiate for lower drug prices. This would decrease costs for me and for all taxpayers. Drug companies are spending millions to stop this plan, so they can keep charging us the highest prices in the world.

I urge you to contact your legislators and ask them to stop the Big Pharma scam and support allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices.
