Letter to the Editor: Is Carney king? Mask mandate makes it seem so

Posted

So when did the state of Delaware have a coronation for its king? It seems that our freedoms and the freedoms of our children are under the control of a single individual. Our governor has used the state of emergency and the public health emergency to tell us what we can and cannot do —how we should act in public, how our children should act in school and even how we should spend time with our family and friends.

Unfortunately, the way the state of emergency legislation is written in Delaware, it makes the governor into the king of the state. Sadly, few of our legislators have the guts to stand up for the rights and views of the citizens they represent. I feel that most are in office for personal gain and their party, and not for their constituents.

Unfortunately, it seems that our governor and the majority of our state government are owned by others outside Delaware.

My opinion is that the recent mandate requiring masks in all schools shows our governor does not make decisions based upon science or any factor other than what the Biden administration tells him to do. Then, we have elected school board members who refuse to stand up for the rights of the children and families they are elected to serve. This was evidenced at the Appoquinimink School District meeting, when a board member said that they had no choice in the matter of masks.

Well, it is a mandate. It is not the law. It is merely the work of a tyrannical and overreaching governor, and you can fight this. Stand up for what is right and do right by the children.
