“I’m mad as hell, and I’m not going to take it anymore.” Those were pretty strong words for a 1976 movie.
How about we Americans? Are we mad as hell and not going to take it anymore?
Remember what President John F. Kennedy said: “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” Many politicians, whether Democrat or Republican, have taken and taken and taken, and have become bullies, with name-calling and disturbing behavior. Are these really the people we want representing our needs and beliefs?
Let’s start with political salaries: Anyone who runs for public office and succeeds in winning that post, whether local, state or national, should be required to donate 10% of that salary to designated charities that the newly elected person has absolutely no ties to.
Then term limits: The president of the United States is limited by law to only serve two four-year terms. This should be the same for all elected positions.
Nothing will change if we don’t change our thoughts about what public office really means — serving the public, not yourself.
