Has everyone noticed that the sun came out on this beautiful day? It could be that way almost every day if the politics of “winning by any means necessary” did not keep giving us cloudy days. Throwing mud to cover up truth from fiction has many die-hard Trump Republicans believing the election was stolen. That is terribly far from the truth.
In the documentary, “Where’s My Roy Cohn?” Donald Trump learned the art of twisting the truth from a very corrupt lawyer, Mr. Cohn. In a congressional hearing in the ’50s, a congressman asked Cohn if he had no shame. Trump, like Cohn, has no shame about lying. He was well taught to “win by any means necessary” by Mr. Cohn.
I believe that in the next decade, the demographics in the United States will result in Caucasians being the minority group. Those people of color who helped build the White House and were unfairly barred from union construction jobs in the city I grew up in will have some offspring become future government leaders who will hopefully work to create the opportunity for everyone to share in the wealth and power of this nation. The White power structure in place now is panicking. “Winning by any means necessary” is their only trick left to retain their power and the exorbitant wealth that has preserved it.
Imagine our Pledge of Allegiance sounding out the words, “one nation, indivisible, with freedom and justice for all,” on a beautiful September day a decade or so away! Then, the dwindling and struggling middle class will potentially begin actualizing their opportunities to grow again from the bottom up and out. Top-down economic principles have worked for the 1% and very little for the other 99%. They have rightfully been called “voodoo economics.”
Instead, this dynamic of growing the economy from the bottom up and out for an emerging trained, skilled workforce — starting with a universal living wage and good benefits — will expand our economy, creating a healthy workforce. This can result in a more equal distribution of goods and services for all human beings on this beautiful planet Earth. Better days are on the way, once we begin choosing honest ways to govern.
Passing the “human infrastructure” bill in Congress is the steppingstone to creating the more perfect union our founders envisioned.
