First, I don’t think an 18-year-old should be able to purchase a gun, unless he is serving in the military. Also, once they do get the OK to purchase that, they should have to attend some form of safety training before final sale.
Between the age of 18 and 20, a person should have to have parents sign and a background check done; an 18-year-old generally is not going to have any background unless he or she has been in trouble. At that age, their school records should be part of the background check.
Another thing is once someone is bought to the attention of law enforcement, then they should be doing a better task at screening these people. I recall several over the years where both the FBI and local law enforcement have dropped the ball, and people got hurt or killed.
Another thing that is out of hand is not punishing those that commit the crimes. I guess people see how people break the law illegally entering the country, so maybe they think, “Well, I guess I can, too, as nothing happens to them.”
And the most important fact is the sale of illegal guns that is still going on and on, and you are able to get most any weapon you want, just the price might be a little high.
