The children of The Little School practiced their maypole dance on the lawn of Scull Mansion on Friday, May 6, the day before the Dover Days festival. Sadly, the festival was canceled due to weather.
Even more sad is the decision by the city’s Planning Commission to approve Bayhealth’s request to demolish the historic home and pave the property with asphalt for a parking lot, which will accommodate over 450 parking spaces.
By this time next year, we could be viewing a sea of blacktop where small children had once danced.

Editor’s note: Dawn Melson-Williams, interim director for planning and inspections for the city of Dover, said Friday that Bayhealth previously received conditional approval for the site-development application for the Scull property, but at this time, there has been no final plan approval or permit to demolish.
