Primary and general elections are approaching soon, on Tuesday, Sept. 13, and Nov. 8.
I have noticed that, in certain cases, it seems to me to be more like a type of “popularity contest” than the seriously researched voting decisions needed for these important public offices. In those cases, it seems to me to be more “a vote for someone I know” or “a vote for someone who belongs to my favorite group” or “I like what the candidate’s literature says they stand for.”
These are important public positions, the actions of which personally affect the lives of many people. So, to me, careful checking into how each candidate has actually acted/voted in the past is critical; reliable “fact-checking” seems important to me, as are the candidate’s relevant educational and experience qualifications to best perform the specific duties of the position in a manner that truly benefits constituents.
I hope the upcoming 2022 elections will be more about seriously researched candidate actions/votes, relevant experience and education, and demonstrated dedication to honest service for the good of every voter, not about varied types of “popularity contests.”
