Letter to the Editor: Dover mayor thankful for Fourth of July celebration

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, and children of all ages, I want to thank each of you for sharing in our “Olde Fashioned Fourth of July Celebration”: Fun and Fireworks.

A special thank-you to the 4th of July Celebration Committee for bringing this event together and making it bigger and better than ever. Job well done.

I want to offer a heartfelt thank-you to all our sponsors and to Coney Island Grill and Fifer Orchards for their sponsorship of the hot dog-eating contest and the Delaware peach pie-eating contest. Yum.

I certainly don’t want to leave out a big thank-you to the Dover Police Department, the Dover Fire Department, St. Francis Healthcare Emergency Medical Services and the city of Dover employees who kept us safe.

Finally, thank you, each of you, for joining in celebrating 247 years of freedom and independence in the greatest nation on the face of the Earth.
