I read a recent letter (“Joe Biden is a dangerously weak leader,” Feb. 20), and much of the letter content is not accurate concerning the president. I am here to clear the air.
How corruption be claimed because the Bidens have business dealings in China, when Donald Trump and his family are no better? That $31 million comment was put out by Trump. The Bidens were investigated by the U.S. Government Accountability Office, which found no wrongdoing. China has always threatened to invade Taiwan. Notice it hasn’t happened. There are two instances where it has: 1954-55 and Aug. 23-Dec. 2, 1958. Both invasions were repulsed.
About the claim Biden will not stand up to Russia or China: My father once said, “Never underestimate your opponent.” The writer called our current secretary of defense (Lloyd Austin) and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (Mark Milley) weak leaders. Have you ever met these men or served under them? If you haven’t, then you know nothing about them.
When it comes to Afghanistan, who was the one who brokered the weak Doha agreement and set that chain of events into motion? Trump, whether he is there or not. The U.S. shouldn’t have entered the talks unless we were prepared to represent the Afghan government interests. Biden didn’t enter the White House until January, and he had to either deal with the deadline; renegotiate (for which he would have little leverage); or pull out of the agreement (which would have sent countless more back in). Sad we lost 13 people, but they knew the inherent risk. Now, when it comes to people and equipment, do you think we’re going to move all of it in that short period of time? No. Look at all the equipment we left behind in Vietnam.
Biden did not destroy the economy. Look at all the spending that occurred before he became president, and inflation is a byproduct of the recession. We’ve had this border situation since the ’70s, and it has gone from one administration to another, whether Dems or Republican, with little or nothing done. The president doesn’t control the gas or oil prices or the prices in the stores.
The writer says socialism has failed everywhere. Then,what do you call Cuba? How can you say the vice president is failing at her job or that Kamala Harris is not a true politician? Do you have any idea of what the vice presidential duties are? If you don’t, let me enlighten you: Besides being a cabinet post, the vice president is mandated to assume the presidency in case of the death, disability or resignation of the incumbent president.
