Letter to the Editor: A little kindness could go far among all the chaos

Posted

Short-staffed, skeleton crews, employees making their own hours — this is sad. Not only sad but despicable.

COVID-19 not only brought illness and death. It seems to me that it brought a large case of “lazy,” as well. Businesses are needing help and some can’t get it, and employers at the mercy of their staff seems to be the new “norm” — along with farmland being sold to developers and new homes standing where green fields of corn and golden fields of wheat once grew. It’s heart-wrenching.

The crime rate has skyrocketed. Shootings in local areas are an almost daily occurrence now. Plus, gas, food and household and business supplies are not only in short supply, but the prices have gone up astronomically.

We can’t expect to live in a “Walton family” era, but we can certainly go back to working for a living, and our government, as generous as it was during earlier in the pandemic to help everyone, can stop handing out money.

Another issue is the common disrespect of our fellow human beings. When did compassion and caring die? Rudeness and disrespect seem to be in competition with each other. As old-school as it might sound, we need to go back to a more civilized time, where neighbors helped neighbors, people supported each other during hard times, and a general feeling of “caring” was shared among us.

Let’s get rid of the senseless nonsense that makes this life journey harder than it has to be. If everyone pitched in a little kindness instead of negativity, can you imagine the difference it would make? How about it, America?
