My letter is a response to the Opinion written by Frank Daniels, titled “Why are Dems leading the current insurrection?” Concerned citizens who are protesting the policies of Donald Trump’s administration and the cruelty of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents are practicing their constitutional rights and are not insurrectionists. I would be curious to know what Mr. Daniels calls the Trump supporters and rioters who stormed the capital in 2021, destroying property, battering police officers and traumatizing congresspeople on both sides of the aisle.
The billionaire class and the “Make America Great Again” movement continue to support Trump, but the lengthy pontification of Mr. Daniels about Democrats doesn’t change the fact that the majority of Americans are unhappy with Trump’s presidency. He makes decisions based on his egomania, not on the needs of the American people. The tariffs, which are taxes, are raising the cost of living, and now, he has started a preemptive war that will be costly and is reckless.
Trump works to divide us from one another, but what is happening instead is more and more of us are uniting against his lies, his corruption and his lawless dictatorship. Trump can fool some of the people some of the time, but we are banding together to save our precious democracy, where everyone matters!
