DOVER — Capital School District is one step closer to deciding on the name for the Dover High football stadium and the district’s administrative building.

After naming applications were submitted over the summer, in accordance with Capital School District’s board policy, a review committee was formed to go through the applications.

The five-member committee held its last of three required meetings Monday afternoon at Dover High School. At the public meeting, they reviewed the options and gave members of the public the opportunity to voice their opinions.

The five names considered for the football stadium include Michael D. Thomas Stadium, Alumni Stadium, Dover Senators Alumni Stadium, Senator Alumni Stadium and Senator Stadium.

Currently Senator Stadium is printed on the score board and school merchandise so a name change would require repainting of the score board and the ordering of new football merchandise.

Only one name was submitted for Capital’s administrative building at 198 Commerce Way — the Michael D. Thomas Administrative Building.

After the public meeting, the committee met in an executive session to determine which names it will recommend to superintendent Dan Shelton at Wednesday’s school board meeting. At the board meeting, he will decide whether to go with the committee’s recommendation or not.
