Posted

FELTON — The Lake Forest School District has named former Delaware State Police Trooper Gary Fournier as its lead constable.

Mr. Fournier served with the state police for 26 1/2 years before retiring as a patrol sergeant Friday. He also previously held positions as a school resource officer at Lake Forest High, on the motorcycle unit and as a public information officer.

According to Lake Forest School District superintendent Steven Lucas, “We are so excited to get a man like Mr. Fournier to get our constable program off the ground. Gary has a proven track record of leadership and community service, and is going to do a great job helping to keep our community safe.”

Mr. Fournier is originally from Gouverneur, New York, and took roots in Delaware when he was stationed at Dover Air Force Base in 1989, the district said. He was an active-duty security policeman in the Air Force and served in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm from 1990-91.

He remained in the Air Force Reserve when hired by the Delaware Department of Correction in 1994. He worked as a correctional officer at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, Wilmington.

Mr. Fournier resides in Felton with his wife, Rebecca Fournier, and their children, Sadie and Dylan Fournier, and is involved in coaching Little League baseball in Felton and ice hockey in Harrington.
