DOVER –– Kent County Levy Court voted Tuesday night to fund three community projects.

The first application was unanimously approved for the Bowers Beach Maritime Museum. The museum, which was in poor condition, has been under renovation since early this year and plans on opening, at least in part, by Memorial Day.

The award includes two grants. The first is a $5,000 reimbursement grant to contribute to the $10,000 investment already made to renovate the existing building.

The second was a reserve of up to $20,000 or half (which ever is lesser) toward an addition to the existing building which is estimated to range between $50,000 and $60,000.

The commissioners authorized a payment of $3,000 to a proposed Milford Aquarium project.

The project was originally proposed in 2011, but a business plan is in the works that will require $23,000. The organizers for the project have already raised $10,000.

Glen Howell was the lone commissioner to oppose the payment.

The final contribution Tuesday evening was a unanimous vote to donate $6,000 to United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware for a changing room at its pool at Camp Lenape in Felton.
