Homa: Katz deserves spot at debate, regardless of donations

Posted

The state of Delaware, where the sitting president resides, is treating an independent candidate for the U.S. Senate unfairly. With all the political corruption going on today, I feel the state is trying to silence someone who is trying to make a difference. Having served in the U.S. Marine Corps, back during Vietnam, I am appalled by what has become of this country. Someone trying to have their voice heard and being silenced is unacceptable to me.

Dr. Mike Katz is running as an independent for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Tom Carper. Dr. Katz is on the ballot in Delaware but is being excluded from a debate to be held Wednesday at the University of Delaware. The reason is quite ironic. The university states that, to be considered a viable candidate, one must have received at least two donations of $20 or more per 1,000 people.

The 2020 census (rounded out) reported 990,000 people for Delaware’s population. That would mean donations of approximately $39,600, minimum, to Dr. Katz’s campaign.

The irony is this: Dr. Katz has “refused all donations”! He stands on a platform that he does not want to be beholden to any party or corporate interest. His sole purpose is to “represent the people of Delaware.”

The people of Delaware, and this great nation, should be informed in an attempt to change this injustice.

Time is of the essence. Again, the debate is scheduled for Wednesday.
