UNDATED (AP) — Next week, Congress could begin debating a bill to overhaul college sports, amid uncertainty from recent Democratic election victories. The House, still Republican-led, will decide what to do with the Protect College Sports Act, which passed the Senate last month. The bill regulates athlete pay and protects Olympic sports but faces opposition. Supporters argue it prevents smaller sports from disappearing, while critics say it lacks sufficient protections. Major sports conferences like the SEC and Big Ten are considering their own governance if Congress doesn't act. They hope for federal guidance to manage spending wars for athletes.

Amani Lyles made 7 of 10 from the field and finished with 14 points. MJ Collins and Eric Mahaffey each scored 11. Orlando Lovejoy led Green Bay (1-1) with 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting. UNDATED (AP) — This Holy War game could have significant implications on the Big 12 championship game matchup and the College Football Playoff. Saturday will be the first meeting between the schools with both in the top 10 of the AP poll. No. 3 Utah is 8-0, and has a 14-game winning streak since losing 24-21 to BYU last season. The Cougars are 7-1. Devin Dampier is 18-2 as Utah’s starting quarterback. BYU sophomore Bear Bachmeier is 19-3. No. 24 Arizona hosts TCU on Friday night. Wildcats QB Noah Fifita is the FBS active career leader with 11,664 yards passing and 92 touchdowns.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — For the first time ever, BYU and Utah will face each other as Top 10 teams. This year’s edition of the Holy War offers bigger stakes than simple bragging rights. When the No. 3 Utes host the No. 7 Cougars on Saturday, the outcome could go a long way to determining the eventual Big 12 champion and a College Football Playoff bid. Utah is one of three unbeaten FBS teams and the owner of the nation’s longest winning streak at 14 games. BYU likely needs a win over the Utes to keep its chances for a Big 12 title and a CFP bid alive.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah built a football identity around tough defense under Kyle Whittingham. BYU made its mark with high-flying passing offenses under LaVell Edwards. Both teams are bucking their traditional football identities going into the latest edition of their Holy War rivalry on Saturday. This season, the third-ranked Utes are overwhelming opponents with offense, while the No. 7 Cougars are relying on stingy defense. Utah leads the Big 12 with 145 plays covering 10 or more yards from scrimmage. They rank second in the league in scoring offense, total offense and first downs. The Cougars have held four of five Big 12 opponents to 20 or fewer points.
