The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control announced Monday that the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission will hold a joint Delaware-New Jersey virtual public hearing March 28 regarding recreational harvest control rule draft addenda.
The rules would apply to the summer flounder, scup and black sea bass fishery management plan and the bluefish fishery management plan.
The addenda propose five possible approaches for setting management measures and considers changes to the process used by ASMFC and the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council to set recreational possession, size and season-limit management measures.
Taking final action on the addenda will not implement any specific possession, size or season limits but will start a new process for setting future measures. These potential changes are intended to provide greater stability in fisheries management from year to year. The changes also will place greater emphasis on stock status when setting management measures.
The hearing will take place 6-8 p.m. To register, visit here. The draft is also available here, and the comment period runs until 11:59 p.m. April 22.
