Graham: Red-light cameras unfair to truck drivers

Posted

The laws regarding violations picked up by red-light cameras must be changed to adjust for the braking distances required for large tractor trailers.

Currently, it is a “one-size-fits-all” law that unfairly punishes truck drivers who, due to the longer braking distances required, proceed through yellow lights, rather than stopping their rigs unsafely.

Truck drivers risk possible jackknives of their tractor trailers, especially in wet weather, and could cause life-and-limb injuries to other motorists to avoid a ticket and the unfair financial penalties imposed.
