In response to Beverly E. Monahan’s Opinion, “Harris has been expertly evading throughout campaign,” I was a professional educator for over 35 years. I was a classroom teacher for many years. I was a principal for many years. I taught graduate school to teachers who were in the process of getting their licenses to become school administrators.
When I was a principal, Newsweek of Japan did a “cover story” about my school being a “well-wired American school.” The article included interviews with my fifth grade students, as well as their teachers, and ran for over 20 pages in that edition.
At one point, my school received a grant for C-Phone technology, the predecessor to Skype. It allowed the user to hook up a machine about the size of an old VCR to a regular TV. Once installed, it allowed us to communicate with anyone in the world who had the same technology, using international phone lines. Our first “hookup” was with a middle school in Ukraine. The children in Ukraine wore their traditional historical clothing for the event. The first question the children from Ukraine asked my children was related to our space shuttle. You see, they had seen a magician make our space shuttle disappear on TV. They wanted to make sure that we got our “shuttle” back!
I had a very successful career, but that is not my point. Do you think that I would have been able to accomplish any of the above if I were a convicted felon and known sex offender, who also, by the way, filed for bankruptcy six times? Frankly, I would never have been hired as a teacher if my résumé included any of the aforementioned. Yet, you want Donald Trump to be president again!
