If a shake-up is needed in Dover City Hall, why then — when we actually have challengers to a council seat — do we still reelect the incumbent (“Major shake-up needed at Dover City Hall”)? Why then do most seats go unchallenged? Why is it that, when you ask people on the street to drill down on the core problems of the city, they are clueless?
It takes time, energy and interest on the part of all the people to make the city work for all of us. Unless you’re there at a council meeting for a zoning change or to beg the council for public tax dollars, people just don’t show up.
We just do not have that public interest anymore.
