Felton crash leaves woman dead, another critically injured

FELTON — An 87-year-old Connecticut woman died Sunday in a two-vehicle collision that also left a 26-year-old Philadelphia woman with critical injuries, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Cpl. Amina Ali said.

Police said that, at approximately 7:12 p.m., a 2005 green Cadillac CTS was traveling south on U.S. 13, north of Killens Pond Road. At the same time and location, a 2021 white Jeep Wrangler was traveling north in the right lane of the highway.

For unknown reasons, Cpl. Ali said, the CTS lost control and crossed over the grass median into U.S. 13 north in front of the Wrangler, striking its front.

Both vehicles spun off the road. The CTS came to a stop in the grass east of U.S. 13, south of the collision. The Wrangler came to a stop in the grass east of the road, north of the incident.

The victim, from Stratford, was riding in the right rear passenger seat of the Jeep and pronounced dead at the scene. Her name is being withheld until notification of kin.

The three other occupants, also from Stratford, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. They included two 62-year-old men and a 69-year-old woman.

The driver of the CTS was transported to an area hospital in critical condition. A passenger in the Cadillac, a 1-year-old boy, was not properly restrained and was ejected, Cpl. Ali said. He was transported to a children’s hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A right front passenger in the CTS, a 23-year-old man from Dover, was flown by state police helicopter to a local trauma center, also with non-life-threatening injuries.

The road was closed for approximately four hours, while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating and asks witnesses to contact Master Cpl. J. Lane at 302-698-8457, send a message via the state police Facebook page or call Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333.
