From past experiences, an increase in tobacco taxes does not have the effect that lawmakers plan.
Just look at the weed tax. Has it done what was expected? If you go into Dover, the smell is all over the area, even outdoors. The tax didn’t seem to stem the buying habit of people.
How much revenue does it really bring in? Are vaping products getting the same tax? How about the products that are weed-adjacent?
