Dalleo: With Trump moves, other nations are losing confidence in US

Posted

I am deeply concerned by the Trump administration’s impulsive and dangerous foreign military adventurism. It is as though we have ourselves become the rogue nation that we had previously challenged. Our history has been as a powerful nation that ensures the world’s political stability, leads the world toward peace and prosperity, and provides an example of democratic government. Are we throwing away years of responsible world leadership, discarding trusted allies and offering our rationale as “might makes right”?

The corrupt and outrageous plans that Donald Trump has announced include invading a half-dozen sovereign countries, to gain oil and other resources in Venezuela and Greenland, a Danish territory. Are we really prepared to break our NATO responsibilities and invade a NATO ally? Trump’s motives are suspect. Is all of this bellicosity really just cover for moving Americans’ attention from high prices at home and Epstein files media coverage to reckless foreign escapades?

I do not want my government to become the monster on the world stage that is throwing its weight around to steal the natural resources of another sovereign nation or to destabilize world order. I fear that the corrupt intention of the Trump administration is to seize Venezuelan oil to benefit American oil companies. It will end badly, as other nations lose confidence in our goodwill as the “shining city on the hill,” which President Ronald Reagan suggested we must maintain to be the moral beacon of hope to the rest of the world.
