Rotary car show Aug. 10 in Felton to benefit scholarship effort

FELTON — It’s time to cruise into town for a good cause.

The sixth annual Hub Club Rotary Car, Truck & Bike Show will be Aug. 10 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Lake Forest North Elementary School, 319 E. Main St.

The Hub Club is the Harrington-Greenwood-Felton Centennial branch of Rotary, and it will host the event to award annual scholarships to students from Lake Forest and Woodbridge high schools.

“We normally do three scholarships,” said Bryant Bell, organizer of the show. “We have a STEM scholarship, a vocational scholarship and a community service scholarship. We are trying to grow our assets, so we can provide more scholarships and larger scholarships.”

There is a $15 registration fee per vehicle. Sponsorships can also be purchased for $250, and T-shirts will be available for $20. Admission for the public is free.

The idea for the fundraiser came from his love of cars, Mr. Bell said.

“I am a car and airplane nut. And I wanted to do a car show but couldn’t really figure out a way to make money by doing a car show,” he added.

He also enjoys meeting people each year and learning the stories behind their vehicles.

“Some of my favorite parts are meeting all the guys and girls, and talking to them about their vehicles, how they acquired them, what they have done to them, how they keep them clean and running,” Mr. Bell said. “It’s just really good camaraderie.”

The event will also include games like cornhole and refreshments from Kirby and Holloway in Harrington.

“We try to patronize our local vendors,” Mr. Bell continued. “Kirby and Holloway is right there in Harrington, and they are providing some really delicious food.”

The music also will be provided from a local vendor, Ace 82 Entertainment. Plus, the Delaware State Police will visit with Trooper Dani, and Kent County Motors will have a brand-new Hummer on-site.
