Cape Henlopen graduates 500
Principal Kristin DeGregory marks four years at school
By LEWES — The stands at Legends Stadium were full to bursting, while hundreds of others surrounded the track, played in the band, provided security, took videos and photos, and did all the jobs required to give Cape Henlopen High School's 500-plus member Class of 2024 its big push into the wider world.
Morgan Newcomb is the class valedictorian, with the student address delivered by Jack Huss, class president.
Kristen DeGregory, principal, presided over the ceremony, which she said had special meaning for her since coming to Cape Henlopen High School four years ago herself.
“Tonight is the culmination of years of dedication and hard work,” she said.
Bob Fulton, superintendent of schools, gave remarks.
Mr. Fulton told the class the strength of the Cape Henlopen community is found in the quality of the people who live there.
“Your parents and our community make this a great place to live, work and raise a family,” he said.
He reminded the class of their accomplishments, and of what it took to become leaders working together.
“We accomplish more together than separately,” he said.
Following the remarks and some ceremonial functions, the Cape Chorale performed the alma mater, and then diplomas were conferred by Dr. Alison Myers, president of the school board.
After the diplomas were delivered, the concert band played the crowd out.
According to the school district, this year’s graduation ceremony is the 55th at Cape Henlopen High School, and the 145th time public school diplomas have been awarded in the Cape Henlopen region.
