Kudos to Rep. Eric Morrison, D-Glasgow, for developing and championing House bills 291 and 292, addressing incomplete work on our campaign finance laws (“Three state bills would promote ‘good government'").
It’s disheartening that we’re still grappling with the need to close loopholes in campaign finance processes, procedures and laws that tarnished the reputation of the state of Delaware over a decade ago.
For those who may not recall, I strongly recommend looking through retired Chief Justice E. Norman Veasey’s eye-opening report on Delaware’s campaign finance corruption, dated Dec. 13, 2013. You can find it readily available on the Delaware Bar Association’s website.
At the conclusion of his report, Chief Justice Veasey emphasized that the reforms proposed should not be left to gather dust on a shelf. And yet, here we are, more than 10 years later.
One would expect every legislator to be eagerly co-sponsoring these two bills. Let’s get it done!
