Arrest made after residential burglary in Smyrna

SMYRNA — A 36-year-old Townsend man was arrested after a Smyrna residence was burglarized Friday, Delaware State Police spokeswoman Cpl. Amina Ali said.

Police said that at approximately 6:22 p.m. Friday, troopers responded to a residence on the 1200 block of Alabam Road for a burglary. Troopers arrived at the residence and observed a man, identified as Joshua Chavez, attempting to enter the garage, according to Cpl. Ali.

Troopers discovered Mr. Chavez was attempting to break into a home to confront a 32-year-old man who was not home at the time, police said. No one was injured.

Mr. Chavez was taken into custody and taken to Troop 9. He was charged second-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools and criminal mischief. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $8,500 secured bond.
