American Association of University Women set September meeting speaker

LEWES — Broadcasting pioneer and longtime NPR host Liane Hansen will be interviewed by writer Bill Newcott during the Sept. 19 meeting of the American Association of University Women’s Coastal Georgetown branch at The Lodge, 1008 King’s Hwy, scheduled for 11 a.m.

Ms. Hansen began her career in public broadcasting in 1976, when she became a production assistant and substitute host for then-local Philadelphia public radio show, "Fresh Air."  In 1979, she joined National Public Radio as a production assistant for "All Things Considered" and later hosted "Weekend All Things Considered" and "Performance Today," according to her biography.

Ms. Hansen guest hosted "Fresh Air" when it entered national syndication. In November 1989, Hansen joined "Weekend Edition Sunday."

According to her biography, she retired in 2011 and moved to Bethany Beach to help launch radio station WDDE and serves on its governing board.

According to an AAUW press release, Mr. Newcott is an award-winning travel writer and film critic for the Saturday Evening Post.
