PRINCESS ANNE — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore tired a new approach to drive donations to its scholarship programs during homecoming weekend festivities. By using a focused social media campaign, the results “exceeded our expectations,” says UMES Public Relations Director Bill Robinson.
A goal of $48,000 was set from noon Friday, Feb. 19 through noon Sunday, Feb. 21 but when the “48-hour blitz” was over $54,901 was raised for the fund-raising/philanthropy office.
This support from alumni, friends and supporters of UMES overtopped the goal by 14 percent. Mr. Robinson said the proceeds will be placed in scholarship pool.
