SALISBURY — Information about an array of services available for those 55 and older — along with entertainment, presentations and demonstrations — will be featured when “Thrive: Senior Life After 55” debuts this Saturday, Oct. 14.

Sponsored by MAC Inc. and presented by the Salisbury Independent, Crisfield-Somerset County Times and Dorchester Banner, the event is planned for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at MAC Inc., the Area Agency on Aging, located at the Holly Center complex off Snow Hill Road (909 Progress Circle). There is no admission charge. “The elements of successful aging are good health, good physical and mental function and an active lifestyle,” said MAC Executive Director Pattie A. Tingle.

“Successful aging does not mean you must have all three. We know mental ability and social relationships are critical in determining physical health. Active engagement with life can result in more than just added years. It means staying independent, charting our own life course — to thrive,” she said.

Door prizes will be awarded at the event and there will be giveaways and interactive activities.

Informative sessions will include the topics wills and living wills with Nancy McCaig from Maryland Legal Aid, 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.; information for veterans, 11 a.m.; struggling with mild depression for those 60 and older, 11:30 a.m.; panel discussion with MAC’s State Health Insurance Program at noon and 12:30 p.m.; planned giving with the Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore at 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m.; and how Compass at Coastal Hospice helps those with serious illnesses at 2 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

Area artists will demonstrate how to create their works from 1 to 3 p.m.

Entertainment, in the Perdue Family Living Well Education Center, will be by The Dove at 10 a.m., Delmarva Dulcimer Players at 11 a.m., award-winning photographer and writer Brice Stump talking about his new book on Deal Island skipjacks at 1 p.m. and Salvation Army Lassies line dancers at 2 p.m.

Discussing their books will be authors Sheldon Larmore, who wrote Be Quiet and Listen, at 10 a.m.; Dr. Carolyn Stegman, who wrote A Gold-Mended Life, at 10:30 a.m.; Tom Taylor, PAC 14 assistant director, and children’s author, at 11 a.m.; and Raylena Fields, former journalist and author of The Adventures of Natalie Hill, at 11:30 a.m.
