CAMBRIDGE — This coming Sunday the Men of Waugh Chapel United Methodist Church will be celebrating its Annual Men’s Day with guest speakers at the 10 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. services. The speaker for the 10 a.m. service is Dr. Harry Lee Williams, president of Delaware State University (DSU), Dover, Del. The speaker for the 3:30 p.m. service is the Rev. Elmer N. Davis, senior pastor of Whatcoat United Methodist Church, Dover, Del.

Dr. Williams, in the 2017 HBCU Digest was named among the “Top 10 Influential HBCU Presidents” in the country. Prior to his arrival at DSU, Dr. Williams served at the University of North Carolina as interim senior associate vice president for Academic and Student Affairs in 2008. He remained in the latter position until he became the DSU provost that summer.

A native of Greenville, N.C., Dr. Williams has a bachelor of science in communication broadcasting and a master of arts in educational media, both from Appalachian State University, as well as an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from East Tennessee State University. As an athlete, Dr. Williams competed as an undergraduate in track and cross country at Appalachian State University. He continues to stay in shape with morning runs of four miles, five days a week. He is married to Dr. Robin S. Williams and has two sons.

The Rev. Elmer Neal Davis Jr., son of the late Elmer Neal Davis Sr. and Julia Diane Davis was born in Salisbury. Rev. Davis received his education in the Wicomico Public School System where he graduated from James M. Bennett Senior High School and Wor-Wic Community College where he received his Associates of Arts degree in Criminal Justice. He attended the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Police Academy in Salisbury. He served as a Police Officer for 22 years, promoted through the ranks to Lieutenant at the Salisbury City Police Department. He received the Meritorious Service and Exceptional Service Awards and Police Officer of the Year 1991,1992 and 2003. Also, he graduated from Wilmington College, receiving a bachelor’s of science degree in human resources management with honors.

In 2014, he was assigned as the Senior Pastor of Whatcoat United Methodist Church. He received a Masters of Divinity at Howard University, School of Divinity. Rev. Davis has provided an engaging, welcoming community where non-Christians, non-churched, and under-churched communities are loved, welcomed, and made to feel safe and accepted in our church family. He is married to First Lady Tyronna A. Davis and are parents to Cameron E’mar Davis and Eshyra Neale Davis, and grandparents of Kamaryn J. Davis.

All United Methodist men are invited to share in this worship experience as well as everyone from the larger community. Waugh Chapel is located at 425 High St. in Cambridge. The Rev. James C. Whitaker is the host pastor.
