CAMBRIDGE — Talent has combined with inspirational instruction to ensure Dorchester County has a large representation in Maryland’s All-State Choruses this year. A record 20 middle and high school students from Dorchester County Public Schools have been selected to join these prestigious ensembles following rigorous auditions. This is the third-largest number from any public school system in the state, and more than most much larger districts.

The students chosen for the Choruses are from three DCPS schools. Those from North Dorchester Middle School are 7th grader Cole Ledger and 8th graders Jaime Fonseca-Gonzalez, Tristan Raughton, Eli Talley, and Ian Ledger, taught by chorus teacher Kevin Lewis.

North Dorchester High School had 12 students selected: 9th graders Danielle Ott, Lily McDonald, Aiden Hayward, Cahleigha Brown, Rachel Widmaier, Madalyn Wagner, Miranda Smith, Shae Reid, Karen Mejia; sophomore Trinity Cephas; junior Seth Talley; and senior Kadie Laramore. Sabra Steward is the NDHS chorus teacher.

Mace’s Lane Middle School is sending three 8th graders to All-State. They are Destin Green, Max Marshall, and Deen Wright, all taught by MLMS chorus teacher Brooke Brittingham.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Diana Mitchell said, “As a musician myself, I know the work necessary to perform to the high level demanded of a statewide ensemble and congratulate our singers and their skilled and dedicated teachers. The arts are flourishing in Dorchester County Public Schools.”

The Junior All-State Chorus is open to students in grades 7 through 9. The Senior All-State Mixed Chorus and Tenor Chorus are open to grades 10 through 12. The Junior All-State Chorus will hold its annual concert at Perry Hall High School in Baltimore County on March 4.

Concerts featuring both Senior Choruses will be held on March 11 at Morgan State University.
