CAMBRIDGE – Cambridge Main Street will celebrate Second Saturday March with a St. Patrick’s Day giveaway, plenty of interesting art events and the return of a familiar favorite at our downtown brewery.

Beginning Saturday at noon, you can try your luck at any of these participating Main Street businesses - Katie Mae’s Country Shoppe, Shops at Magnolia Grove, Choptank Charlie’s, Sunnyside Shop, Black Anchor Tattoo, Main Street Gallery, A Few of My Favorite Things, and Jimmie & Sook’s. You will draw a random card, and if yours has the leprechaun with a pot of gold, you will be one of two winners of a $35 gift certificate to be used in any of the participating stores.

“I feel like we kicked off the season with last weekend’s Paddy in the Alley, and it’s time for us all to start reconnecting to our local business owners,” said Cambridge Main Street Executive Director Brandon Hesson, pointing out that you only get one try per store and the event will continue until supplies last. “This is just a fun way to get people back in stores, having a good time, and remembering that downtown Cambridge is about cutting loose and enjoying yourself.”

As always, Second Saturday will feature artist receptions and special exhibits in our downtown galleries. This weekend, there will be an incredible mix of conventional artistry with some of the world’s oldest techniques, coupled with inspired, contemporary works.

Main Street Gallery will hold its reception from 5-8 p.m. to showcase metalwork by Wendy Flint Franklin and complimentary ceramic works by Karen Bearman and Fran Gross. Black Anchor Tattoo will be displaying works created by its staff at its new location on 437 Race St. Liv Again will host five young artists and their show entitled ‘Modern Mythology’ inspired by popular culture in various forms of mixed media.

“We’re experiencing some amazing artistic diversity downtown, thanks to the continued efforts of our galleries, and some great ideas from new faces like Liv Again and Black Anchor,” said Mr. Hesson. “By appealing to all crowds, we’re making Cambridge an arts destination, and we are seeing new faces and introducing our town to a new crowd through art.”

At 1 p.m. Saturday, RAR Brewing will welcome back a seasonal favorite brew. ChopDank is a hop bomb that will get kicked off this year with a throwback party in the taproom featuring old-school mixing and music from DJ Get Down. Hip hop-inspired attire isn’t required, but will be welcomed. There will also be exclusive, limited-run glassware giveaways while supplies last.

“All of the downtown events inspire collaborative business and reminds our town that the city center is where our community expresses itself,” said Mr. Hesson. “We’re making great products downtown and everyone is welcome.”
