Spectrum: Opening Friday – DCA Annual Members’ Show and Sale

Posted

CAMBRIDGE — The Annual Members’ Show and Sale opens Friday at the Dorchester Center for the Arts. This yearly exhibit highlights the talents of current members and represents a variety of mediums including photography, painting, fiber art, jewelry, stained glass, mixed media and more.

DCA appreciates the support that membership provides and is honored to have this annual opportunity to shine the spotlight on member creativity. The show runs through July 27.

The entries are all original works of the exhibiting artist. “Original” means never having occurred or existed before and invented or created by the exhibitor.

No copies of art or photographs by other people are exhibited. Exhibiting artists are welcome to sell their work during the show. DCA retains a commission of 35% of the selling price of each item sold.

For the Second Saturday Reception on June 8, 5-7 p.m., sponsored by Partners 1st Federal Credit Union, visitors will enjoy live music by Katie Mae, light refreshments, and a special book launch event for “Where the Eastern Shore Begins” by the Choptank Writers Group.

The reception is free to attend and all are welcome. “Where the Eastern Shore Begins” is an anthology of short stories and poems created by seventeen talented writers who call the Eastern Shore home, and who meet weekly at DCA in support of their art. Some of their tales will make readers laugh, others will bring tears to their eyes, and a few might make one wonder in what strange world the author lives.

None will disappoint and all will leave each reader wanting more. This collection is an absolute joy to read, and one to share with anyone who loves stories. Several of the writers will be on hand at the reception to talk about their work.

For the July Second Saturday, sponsored by Dave Wallace and Associates, awards will be presented for Best in Show, Best Depiction of Dorchester County, Most Creative, and People’s Choice. Judging is by Anke Van Wagenberg, Ph.D.  Anke is Senior Curator at the American Federation of Arts in New York.

She has held curatorial and research positions at the National Gallery of Art, the Norton Museum of Art in West Palm Beach, the Vero Beach Museum of Art, the Netherlands Institute for Art History, and The Walters Art Museum, among others, and is a former Chief Curator at the Academy Art Museum in Easton.
