GOLDEN HILL — On Jan. 10, nine South Dorchester students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society. These students were offered the opportunity to apply for membership based on their academic record and their contributions to the school community. Each inductee completed an application and composed an essay on the topic of the five pillars of the National Junior Honor Society (Scholarship, Service, Leadership, Character, and Citizenship), and must continue to exhibit commitment to these five pillars.

Former SDS student and dual CSD-DCTC graduate Matt King gave the keynote speech (via Skype, as he had to return to High Point College for the Spring semester). Mr. King congratulated the inductees on their choice to pursue academics at a young age, encouraged them to maintain their good grades, and championed becoming a well-rounded student by joining extra-curricular activities and discovering their interests.
